VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOW

July 19, 2008. Our Violet-green Swallows fledged today. Here's one of the two babies peaking its head out before flying. The next few days we did not see any during the day but they returned at dusk. One night I got to watch one of them repeatedly try to return into the nestbox, but kept hitting the box just off to the side of the hole. It would gently drop down, fly briefly around and try again and again. It took four tries before finally getting it right.
