GREAT EGRETS AND AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS

October 12, 2008. Today at Smith-Bybee I counted 282 Great Egrets on Smith Lake and then headed over to Bybee Lake. I didn't see any there, until I found 7 perched in a tree at the end of the dirt path that goes between the lakes. When I walked back, there were 102 Great Egrets on Bybee. I didn't go back to Smith to see, but assume they had flown over from there, rather than from some other place.

I had seen 17 American White Pelicans on Smith Lake and then while at the end of the path had been treated to 8 continuously circling high overhead. They always surprise me as to how graceful they are despite their size.
