Birds of Peru

According to our guide, this Harpy Eagle had hatched about 7 months earlier.  It was seen at Refugio Amazonas Lodge.

White-winged Guans are easy to find at Chaparri Nature Reserve in Northern Peru.

Great Black Hawk, seen in the Amazon.

One of 3 King Vultures in the same tree in the Amazon along the Tambopata River.  Note the very full crop.

Also near Tambopata Research Center, Blue-and-Yellow Macaws were common.

And Scarlet Macaws were regular visitors at Tambopata Research Center.  In years past some were hand raised there and they regularly return and often try to steal food during meal times.  During one memorable lunch, one dove down to the table and grabbed a packet of butter.  It later came back and grabbed a roll to go with it.
