GALAPAGOS TORTOISE


6/25/07 Of the 14 subspecies of Galapagos Tortoise, only 11 survive. One of the subspecies is represented by a single male named Lonesome George who is originally from the island of Pinta. They vary significantly especially in the shape of the carapace. This is one of the saddle-backed subspecies. The name Galapagos comes from the Spanish word for saddle
