October 24, 2007. Bob Stites, John Fitchen and I found one female or first year Cassin's Finch at the top parking lot of Larch Mountain. I first heard its call note, and it then flew in to a playing of its song. It perched briefly before flying off. The photo has been cropped and highlighted. It shows the crisp streaking on the flanks, larger bill and very long primary projection of a Cassin's Finch.

RUFF

October 14, 2007. This Ruff at Fernhill Wetlands was initially found two days earlier, and fortunately it stayed around. It was clearly larger than the nearby Dowitchers and with the white face, I think this is an immature male.
